Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Sunday insisted that the
UK-based firm at the center of a corruption row that has hit CWG OC was recommended by the Indian
High Commission despite an embarrassing denial issued by it.
The Indian High Commission had denied recommending A M Films, the little-known UK-based firm which
allegedly received lakhs of pounds for providing its services during the Queen's Baton Relay in
London.
Kalmadi refuted the claim and asserted that the recommendation came from the High Commission only
from a protocol official Raju Sebastian, who has been dubbed in media reports as too junior an
official to make any recommendation on behalf of the High Commission.
The Organising Committee would like to clarify that we had written to Mr Vikrant Ratan, the first
secretary (Protocol) of the Indian High Commission, to provide us the list of agencies for
transportation, accommodation and other services and their approved rates.

Pakistani troops on Thursday night pounded nearly half a dozen
Indian posts with mortar shells and rockets in Krishna Ghati sector in J&K's Poonch district.
The heavy shelling was apparently aimed at pushing in a fresh batch of militants from across the LoC
and also to divert attention of troops engaged in combing operations to flush out militants hiding
in nearby Beri Rakh forests in Mendhar for the past one week. The Indian posts targeted by the
Pakistani troops fall in the infiltration route of militants, sources said.
Brigadier General Staff (BGS) Satish Dua said the Pakistani troops resorted to heavy caliber weapon
fire. We too retaliated, he added.
Firing started around 9 pm and continued till midnight . There was no loss of life or damage to
property.

The foreign ministers of India and Pakistan are meeting in
Islamabad to try to revive bilateral dialogue between the two nuclear-armed nations.
Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna and his Pakistan counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi opened talks
Thursday, their first meeting since the Mumbai terrorist attacks derailed peace negotiations nearly
two years ago.
Krishna arrived in Islamabad Wednesday, telling reporters he has come with a message of peace for
Pakistan.
The Indian foreign minister said his visit marks a new beginning in the efforts to improve bilateral
relations. He said India is committed to resolving issues with Pakistan through peaceful
dialogue.
But India has insisted that no improvement in the relationship can come until Pakistan cracks down
on the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba. U.S. and Indian authorities accuse Lashkar-e-Taiba of
carrying out the Mumbai attacks.
Ten gunmen targeted several locations throughout the city in a three-day siege that killed 166...

DHAKA: Bangladesh will allocate Taka 17 billion ($245 million) in its annual budget next
month for constructing the infrastructure necessary to import 500 MW of electricity from India, an
official said.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has consented to the allocation.
A senior official of the power ministry said that the allocation would be used for building a
transmission line from Berhampur in India's Orissa state to Bheramara in Bangladesh and to set up a
substation.
The official, however, said that the project may need more than the sum allocated, New Age newspaper
said Monday.
Energy-starved Bangladesh signed an energy deal with India in January when Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina visited New Delhi.
Opposition leader Khaleda Zia has criticised the government for creating an artificial power crisis
that would require power import without going through tenders and other trade procedures.
Economists and businessmen at a seminar organised Sunday called for transparency in power deals and...

Mumbai: The crime branch of the Mumbai police has arrested a serving lieutenant colonel of the
Indian Army for uploading child pornography content on websites.
The police are investigating whether the officer, Jagmohan Balbir Singh, 42, was also involved in
producing these videos.
The arrest followed a tip-off from police in Germany to Interpol a few months ago. The alert said
dirty videos involving children were being uploaded on pornographic websites from a computer in
Mumbai.
The information was passed on to the cyber crimes investigation cell of the crime branch through
diplomatic channels, according to the Mumbai police.
“We were able to trace the IP (internet protocol) address of the computer involved, said joint
commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy. The address belonged to the computer of a senior army
officer. We decided to work more on the information since there were chances that someone else could
be using his computer.”

Our beloved National Anthem ”Jana Gana Mana” written and composed by Sri Rabindra Nath Tagore
has been chosen as the World’s Best National Anthem by UNESCO (United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization). It is a proud moment for all Indians across the world.
Jana Gana Mana written in Sanskritised Bengali, it is the first of five stanzas of a Brahmo hymn
composed and scored by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
It was first sung at the Calcutta Session of the Indian National Congress,on 27 December 1911. Jana
Gana Mana was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the Indian national anthem on
January 24, 1950. The music for the “current version” is said to be derived from a composition
for the song by Ram Singh Thakur, although some dispute this.
A formal rendition of the national anthem takes about forty-eight to fifty-two seconds....

WASHINGTON: A Chinese doctor allegedly murdered his former Indian
American supervisor after stalking the victim who he blamed for getting him fired, according to
prosecutors.
The suspect, Lishan Wang, 44, was arraigned on Tuesday on charges that he shot Dr. Vajinder Pal
Toor, 34, five times in Branford, Connecticut Monday morning in the parking lot of Dr. Toor's
condominium complex. Wang had been fired two years ago from a Brooklyn hospital after a
confrontation with Toor, the assistant US attorney Devant Joiner said at the arraignment at New
Haven Superior Court.
Police said he also had 1,000 rounds of ammunition, enough for a massacre, New York Daily News said.
Unemployed Wang did not enter a plea or even look up at his arraignment and is being held on $2
million bail. The next date of hearing has been set as May 11.
Joiner said cops found two loaded handguns, printed directions to Dr. Vajinder Toor's home and a
photo of the doc, a former colleague with whom Wang had clashed at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Centre...

New Delhi: To repeat its low-cost model of operations in Africa, India's mobile phone firm
Bharti Airtel has invited bids for IT-related services, management and maintenance of mobile and
landline networks in 15 nations.
Basically, the company has decided to invite bids, as it was not getting better deals from the
existing partners. Since 2004, IBM has been handling Bharti's IT requirements in a first-of-its-kind
deal globally.
Talking to Economic Times, an Executive close to this deal, said, TCS, Infosys and Wipro along with
IBM are in the race as the company is looking for the best deal. While another executive said Bharti
may be looking to diversify its partner base as it would not want to risk putting all its eggs in a
single basket.
Some of the sources close to the deal also said that, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens, which maintain
and manage Bharti Airtel's networks in India through multi-billion-dollar contracts, are not
guaranteed similar deals with Zain.
